What do I do and who do I do it for?
First: ‘what do I do?’ Well for the most part now I design website back-ends. What I call back-end is all that relates to the actual ‘content’ and ‘logic’ rather than the ‘artistic’ presentation. Two typical examples are Gratitude Unlimited (which admittedly is in dire need of a revamp in my view) and the Buddhist Recovery Network web sites. I took on the job of volunteer webmaster for these sites after they had been created. I am now gradually transporting these sites from very static content to dynamically generated content through the use of programming and database technologies. Such transformations include: multiple languages, data-entry forms, automatic emails, on-line secure payment facility, etc. These sites also come with a back-end maintenance facility, entirely designed for each particular site.
I also design, implement and maintain computer networks. These can range from a couple of PC’s that need to access each other’s data to heterogeneous networks, counting more than 100 computers, multiple servers (Windows and Linux-based.) I am not currently directly in charge of any ‘serious’ network, although I have been lending a hand to a network manager recently.
And then there’s ‘who do I do it for?’ Like I said on the home page, I primarily do work for charitable organisations (registered or not) that do not have –or cannot spare– the funds to pay market rates. Obviously, as a result of my commitment to the Buddhadharma (Teachings of the Buddha) most of the people I have done work for have themselves been related to the Buddhist Path in some way. However –as in the case of Gratitude Unlimited, which is essentially non-sectarian– I will enthusiastically associate with anyone working for the betterment of humankind at some level or other.
